Episode 2: Twin Tail Trap / Mental Training / Silent Kill or Die
Momoka wakes up one morning to find Miou and Kamo in her house having breakfast. They have come to collect her for morning practice. During practice Urara takes on herself to rid of Momoka. Miou takes Momoka’s absence as an ambush and sets off to hunt her, but Momoka shoots them all after trying to shoot a praying mantis. Urara runs off upset by Miou’s obsession with Momoka, Momoka finds her and enacts her revenge. Next morning, Momoka finds Urara having breakfast in her house and that she enjoys getting beaten up by Momoka.
Maya is asked to do a Natto commercial and begs for the group to train her eat it before the shoot. Urara and Momoka decline but Miou; moved by Maya’s plight gets them to help her. Momoka force trains Maya into liking Natto and even dumps her into a tub of the stuff. This makes her traumatised so much that she asks Momoka to do the commercial instead. Momoka does the commercial finding out that she didn’t need to eat the Natto.
Momoka arrives at the club room to find no one there except Kayo. During the awkward silent Momoka wants to strike up a conversation with Kayo but watches her switch into different cosplay costumes when she isn’t looking. Suddenly they start fighting and head down to the shooting range where they fight each other. The others arrive to join in, but Momoka and Kayo join forces and dispatch them all leading to a standoff between them. Momoka calls a draw but as Kayo lowers her gun, she shoots her. Later Momoka finds out that Kayo wanted to talk to her about cosplay after seeing her Natto commercial.
So this episode brings out the different personalities of the group not focusing on Miou. Urara turns out to be a masochist and enjoys getting beaten up by Momoka. Maya is a model but how’d she end up with doing a Natto commercial is puzzling as Momoka ended up in a costume which wouldn’t have shown Maya’s “assets” if she did the job. Maybe she is bad at choosing jobs. Kaya is the silent type but does excel in fighting. Seems that she joined the Survival club just for the chance to dress up in different costumes. Her battle dress is that of course Jill Valentine from the Resident Evil series, if you didn’t get the joke from the last episode post. My favourite character is Ada Wong in her Cheongsam dress of course, but also the business suit in Damnation.
So that leaves Miou who probably will get an episode dedicated to her back story. Maybe we will find out why she was kept back year, mainly the misconduct; probably she shot someone she shouldn’t have (teacher probably). Finally there is the big question of Kamo. I think people will be asking where the duck came from. I enjoy Kamo and want to find out more about this unique mascot that they have. Maybe Miou will explain at some point.
So far there has been no sign of the storyline shifting into the likes of Stella Academy C3 Club. I sort of enjoyed it but the change in Yura; cutting her hair and joining the dark side, did not sit too well for me. Finally Upotte! was good but only that it was short; cut down to 10 episodes, which was kind of a disappointment. So I was looking for some good anime to watch and I ended up going for a really old anime (20 years old in fact) – “Taiho Shichau zo” and it is really good despite its dated anime design. It will be really good if they brought it back redesigned for the technology today. However, with the manga finished, I doubt it.
