I’m going to have to start with an apology for not blogging anything last season, I was far too busy and I fell so far behind in anime that I needed a ‘restart’, if you will. Though just to be clear that’s not to say I’ve caught up on all of my anime, I still have 2 series in the Summer season that I have yet to watch but I’ve decided to add them to a ‘watch over Christmas’ list for now. Whether that will happen or not is a completely different story.

Last season wasn’t all that amazing to be honest anyway, perhaps contributing to why I fell behind as I didn’t feel the need to catch up. Overall I didn’t find much that I felt was amazing, that said, I did mention above I haven’t seen 2 of  the series I wanted to see, so maybe they’re both amazing and deserve a shoutout, but as of yet I can’t do that.

Anyways, I do have a few I want to mention that I’ve watched that did stand out first of which is Hataraku Saibou. It was really enjoyable on several levels, on a factual educational level it was very accurate, watched some doctor review it and he agreed, also can’t fault the animation and the over the top hilarity of it was fun, and of course how relaxing it was to watch, that’s always is a priority for me now.

Another to shoutout is Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight, it was one that I didn’t plan to watch but had good reviews. So thought I’d check it out and it turns out to be quite good, I’m not even sure why I enjoy it, but I guess after seeing things like Euphonium, I’ve started to enjoy highschool drama and the relationship between this ‘troupe’ is quite interesting. Otherwise, I can’t really name anything else that stood out, so let’s hope the next season is better.

For this new season I’m aware of a number of upcoming sequels that I’ve been looking forward to for a long time so already it’s looking much better. They are SAO Alicization, Toaru Majutsu no Index III and Phoenix Wright 2. I also know of Ingress as I play Pokemon Go so subsequently I am interested in that too. Otherwise I have no fifth pick yet for my list, so that one will probably be a ‘relaxing’ comedy, I’ll take a look through the Autumn season charts and see if there’s anything interesting.

In terms of personal life, apart from becoming ridiculously busy with work and several other ’projects’ that I started working on, there isn’t much else to say. Though because of that, my anime time has been significantly cut. In the last few years I’ve cut out many anime which I thought was watchable but not amazing, and I think now for me to watch anything new I have to be either amazed instantly, been recommended it or already aware of it. That will cut down my watch list substantially but at least I’ll hopefully then be up to date, somewhat, with the anime scene as this is not something I want to ever drop.

Before I start rambling on too much, I will now get to my standard list of five:

Ingress the Animation

A project was launched where scientists discovered a mysterious substance that can interface directly with the human brain. This substance, called “Exotic Matter (XM),” has existed since ancient times, influencing human minds and the progress of humanity. In the wake of this discovery, a battle of powerful nations and corporate giants has been unleashed. Organizations across the globe have embarked on a secret race to exploit XM. It represents both an opportunity and a threat to humanity. Two Factions seeks to control the XM. The Enlightened view XM’s power as a gift that enhances human experience and discovery. The Resistance sees XM as a hostile takeover of the human mind, choosing technology as humanity’s best path forward. XM, and the mystery behind it lie at the center of this battle for the fate of humanity.

2018—Now, a new struggle is about to unfold in Tokyo and across the globe. Dangerous and powerful forces seeking to exploit the potential of XM will collide. This groundbreaking project will mark the beginning of an epic augmented-reality experience combining the three elements of animation, location-based gaming, and the real world.

Thoughts

This is the only series I am aware of apart from the sequels. The main reason being that Ingress is the predecessor of Pokémon go from Niantic and I have a friend who plays it very heavily. Thanks to that I was well aware of the anime from the announcement. I’ve never tried the game, mainly because that would mean losing playtime on Pokemon! Though I have always wondered what it’s about and how to play, I’m sure the anime will tell me that, but hopefully in a more entertaining way than someone telling me.

Phoenix Wrights 2

Adaption of the Ace Attorney Video Game Series starting from the 3rd Game.

Thoughts

The last sequel I know of (yes it’s first on the list but that’s only due to alphabetic ordering) is the next Phoenix Wright season which I believe covers the Godot ‘arc’ (as I’ve forgotten the actual arc name). Being a phoenix fan and still slowly finishing off the last main series game, Spirit of Justice, which I’m on the 4th chapter of, out of 5! I would love a reminder of the events of the earlier games in the series as I played the game that this season is based on on release which was back all the way in 2004 and I’ve long forgotten the plot.

Sword Art Online: Alicization

“Where…am I…?” Before he knows it, Kirito has made a full-dive into an epic, fantasy-like virtual world. With only a murky recollection of what happened right before he logged in, he starts to wander around, searching for clues.

He comes upon an enormous, pitch dark tree (the Gigas Cedar), where he encounters a boy. “My name is Eugeo. Nice to meet you, Kirito.” Although he is supposedly a resident of the virtual world – an NPC – the boy shows the same array of emotions as any human being.

As Kirito bonds with Eugeo, he continues to search for a way to log out of this world. Meanwhile, he remembers a certain memory deep down within him. He remembers racing through the mountains with Eugeo as a child… A memory that he should not have in the first place.

And in this memory, he sees someone other than Eugeo, a young blond girl. Her name is Alice. And it is a name that must never be forgotten…

Thoughts

This is the main sequel I was aware. Sure I never really liked the narrative of the original series, especially ALO for obvious reasons and then the stupid repeated plot device at the end of GGO arc. But I will admit the writing got much better for Mother’s Rosario which I really enjoyed and is by far my favourite. Needless to say, the movie was also very well written and animated too. Because of that, I have been looking forward to this new season as it has been hyped up to be the best of SAO. So I’m expecting a lot and this will likely be the anime I blog too. Just need to find the time to watch the extended first episode…

To aru Majutsu no index III

Third season of Toaru Majutsu no Index.

Thoughts

Second of the sequels I was aware of the release is Index season 3. This anime was one of the first that I watched after I started becoming more familiar and more a fan of J.C Staff through the likes of Shana, probably being the first I saw in 2005, and then Zero no Tsukaima (2007), Kimikiss Pure Rouge(2007) and ToraDora (2008). I also enjoyed Railgun, probably a little more because it was less plot heavy, regardless when I heard about a new season I was very excited. I’m hoping it doesn’t rely on a lot of past knowledge as I don’t have any, I just remember a ridiculous amount of religious references and a fairly convoluted plot, which I don’t mind as long as I can understand it…

Tonari no Kyuuketsuki-san

The modern-day vampire comedy centers on high school girl Amano, who was saved from a strange incident by a vampire girl named Sophie Twilight, and has been interested in her ever since. Akari arrives at her house uninvited and the two start to live together. Although a vampire, Sophie never attacks humans, but purchases blood and anime goods via mail and lives a modern life.

Thoughts

I don’t know any other anime in this season so I couldn’t end it as five out of five anime I was aware off, so I thought I’ll just go for one where I can relax to. Simple as that
