The long awaited gore fest begins (although it’s massacred by censors) and a few unsuspecting victims fall to their horrific deaths.

———————————————————————————————————–

We begin from last episode as the monster jumps out behind Nene. Saya tries to protect her, but Nene runs off like a headless chicken. Saya quickly runs back into the house and grabs her sword, but too late, the monster has already chewed off Nene’s head. Saya’s eye powers activate and with two strikes the monster is dead.

After realising that Nene is also dead, Saya screams out in sorrow.

Her dad returns home later and forces her to rest wondering if she’ll find where the light leads.

Fumito comes to visit with drinks when Saya wakes up as he heard she’s not feeling well. He gives her some coffee and leaves her to rest again.

Next day, Saya insists on going to school, so her dad hands her the sword and tells her to be careful.

Saya stalls when opening the door to her classroom when Tokizane comes by and asks her if something had happened as she was absent the day before. She says it was nothing so he says that if anything does happen, she can tell him anything.

Tomofusa interrupts their moment and tells them both to come in. Yuka’s glad to see her as Nene’s been missing for two days and Nono’s out as well.

The teacher comes in and tells them that because of recent disappearances the police have decided to close the school for the day. As the teacher leaves the classroom, she tells Saya to be careful.

As Saya walks home, she says to herself that she had promised to protect everyone. Then a voice out of nowhere says promised to whom? As she looks around she saw no one apart from the dog from earlier. She shrugs it off and continues walking, until the dog actually speaks to her.

But then Nono comes by. She’s changed the parting in her hair to match Nene’s yet Saya could tell that she’s Nono so she asks how. Nono says that when Nene disappeared she said she was visiting Saya. Getting desperate she grips Saya’s arm tightly demanding to know what happened to Nene.

Suddenly a black shadow appears behind Nono and it starts to strangle Saya, but when Saya breaks free the shadow turns around, pierces through two girls behind them and eats them. The shadow goes on a rampage and eats several other people. When Saya tries to fight it, it uses Nono as a human shield. Using such openings it grabs Saya, deals some damage to her and drags her inside itself. Saya’s eyes suddenly lights up and she forces herself into the shadow and slashes Nono free from its grasp.

As the monster explodes into a bloody mess, all that’s left of Nono are bits of her clothing and limbs.

Thoughts:

First things first. That. Was. Brilliant! I did not see that coming. I would’ve thought this to be a bit early to crunch up one of Saya’s friends, y’know build a bit more relationship first, but I have to say the surprise was very nice, especially after a few boring episodes. I can almost, forgive the earlier episode for being crap to lure us into a false sense of security . I haven’t enjoyed an episode this much in a long time. Well in this genre of anime at least. I have quite a bit to say for this and will try to avoid a long rant, so here we go.

Firstly anyone who watched this will have noticed the seriously unneeded censorship. First it was black covering up Nene’s chewed up head and then it was white covering up anyone who was speared through and eaten by that flytrap of a shadow. After 5 episodes of basically nothing we finally get some gore and blood like the title of the series suggests, and it’s massacred by censors. Why?! There was no need, most of us know what’s expected when we see a series called Blood especially if we’ve watched the others and this particular showing of the anime occurs at 1:40am if I’m not mistaken. No children are gonna be awake then, no accidental flicking onto this channel. And I was really looking forward to some nice gore, argh this made me rather annoyed, but my imagination did take over, so whilst there were censors I still enjoyed it. Still, if you’re gonna do it, why censor it, and from what I saw it didn’t look that bad. Especially that part when the shadow speared that woman through the stomach, I mean those scenes happen all the time in these kind of animes, it can’t be worse than others. And what I don’t understand is, they didn’t censor the monsters being butchered up and spraying blood like a broken water pipe, yet they censor humans, it’s pretty much all the same if you consider the amount of blood seen, the monsters were probably worse as they’re not constrained to the human anatomy for where things can get chopped off.

Going onto Nene getting her head chewed up, you’d think with all that frantic running around she’d have ran behind Saya when she went to get the sword, and not stand at the door waiting for the monster to munch on her head. Although that’s one way of her friends not finding out about her, die before they can tell anyone. Though I was kinda hoping for people to find out after she took her sword into school as you’d think monsters would spring up at school, but nothing happened! They didn’t even notice the sword and they were all let home early, which both makes no sense to me. Firstly I’m sure a huge long thing in a blue bag isn’t what Saya takes into school normally so I don’t know why people didn’t say anything about it, I suppose they are preoccupied, so I guess that’s sorta explainable, and she hid it really well (sarcasm). Secondly why close the school if it’s just a few disappearances, they’re not even related.

And lastly I read in places the odd person have stopped watching this anime because of these deaths and the gore. If you want to watch a slice of life school anime why did you watch a series called Blood? If you expected the first few episodes to be the series then at least read the title of the anime or look up the earlier Blood series so that you know what you’re getting into. For someone like me who has waited for 7 weeks to see a good episode I hate people who dismiss an anime just because something gory or tragic happens, that’s what makes a good anime, unless it’s a comedy or slice of life, if you can’t handle the gore go back to your slice of life, and don’t get me wrong I love slice of life, but not when the anime’s supposed to be gory. At least for the majority of people following this series we finally got what we came for. Now let’s hope they can follow this up and not shrink back to some light hearted boring stuff again.

Oh and just something I want to note, why does everyone wear their school uniform wherever they are? Seems odd to me, though guess it’s nothing new.

Well, I think I’ve restrained myself well enough and the rants didn’t last too long, I think… either way, I’m very happy with this episode and look forward to more!
