So everyone comes out of the ‘reflection room’, I’m assuming it’s sort of a detention thing. Apparently Tachibana had never put them there before, see, she’s a good girl… Now Yurippe wants to test things out, so she tells everyone to go back to class and do whatever they want. Oyama eats crisps in class… oh the rebellion…  TK, Hisako, Matsushita and Fujimaki (I think that’s his name) play mah-jong at the back of their class, I wanna play too… Yui repeatedly goes to the toilet, Otonashi and Hinata just sit there and chat whilst Shiina is balancing multiple objects on her fingers…  Takamatsu is doing press-ups, Noda sleeps across two tables.

Naoi, the new council president comes in and everyone runs for it except for Noda, who Otonashi and Hinata have to drag away.

Otonashi notices Tachibana in class and treats her to some Mapo Tofu, which I thought was rather sweet of him, and it’s nice to see him reaching out to her. It’s unfortunate that Naoi had to stop them as it was against school regulations to eat during break time, still Tachibana was able to scoff  it all down in a few seconds… she must have steel lips or something, that tofu is really spicy… Otonashi and Tachibana are then locked in a jail-like room. Tachibana falls asleep…

A sudden rumble gets Otonashi up. He then gets informed through his walkie-talkie by Yurippe that Naoi is a human like them. He should’ve disappeared too but he’s been beating up students behind everyone’s back and they’ve now started a battle against him. But he’s using underhanded tactics like using ordinary students as shields and hostages so they’re being massacred, and now they need Tachibana to stop the fight.

Otonashi wakes Tachibana and hears that the reason she doesn’t have friends is because they keep disappearing, which obviously means that she doesn’t know how this world works.

They break open the door using Tachibana’s Hand Sonic, she slots it in the crack between the door and wall then change to version 4 which happens to be a huge flower which forces the crack bigger and breaks down the door.

They rush to the battle, but it was already over and the SSS members lay as a bloody mess on the ground with the rain pouring away at their defeated bodies…

Naoi goes on about a load of rubbish saying that because he had a harsh life he can be god in this world and how he’s going to make them all rest in peace and disappear. He’s going to do that using hypnotism, he starts with Yurippe by making her dream that her siblings are smiling at her with happy faces.

Otonashi stops him, and here goes Naoi’s depressing life story. The jist of it, his brother was a prodigy in pottery, he died, so Naoi replaced his brother and so people believed that Naoi was the one who died not his brother, only because he wanted meaning to his life rather than being shunned by his family for having no talent. His life was a fake, it disappeared, so he wants acknowledgment in this world.

Otonashi gives him that acknowledgement.

Well, this episode started off light hearted then got quite serious, like most episodes in this anime. The random antics during class was quite hilarious, my favourite has got to be mahjong as I love that game, I even have a mahjong set at home.  This may be the turning point where Tachibana joins them as Otonashi is being nice to her, i.e. treating her to Mapo Tofu, very kind of him and was a lovely scene to see. I also thought that Tachibana looked rather cute when she slept, like a little child sort of thing. Before all the seriousness began there was the hand sonic version four which I luahged at, although it looked rather pretty, I doubt an oversized flower would be that deadly, though that said, it’s probably made of steel. Then we get to that deadly massacre, I’m not really good with blood, but I can handle anime blood, still, was rather gross. The rain fit in really well, though rather cliché. Also I didn’t find Naoi’s story that depressing, maybe it’s because I don’t have that much sympathy for him, though Otonashi, being the good guy obviously does, and that may be enough to turn him ‘nice’. I’ll still dislike him, for now at least.

Well, now it looks like that Naoi and Tachibana are likely to turn ‘good’, this begs the question, who is the bad guy then? God? Makes you think, I really do love this series, even if it’s got me to crying point… Probably more depressing traumatising past lives next episode. One past I’d love to hear is Tachibana, or maybe she doesn’t have one like Otonashi and that’s why she didn’t have a clue what this world is or how it worked. Well, either way, raising a lot of questions is what a good anime series does, and for it to be even better, it needs a good and satisfactory explanation, they better give one.

Last thing, did anyone else think that Oyama eating crisps remind you of Death Note? You know the scene I’m talking about.
