Rihoko starts off the episode with a narrated flashback from two years ago when Junichi asked her to go shopping. She thought it was a date, but it wasn’t meant to be as Junichi wanted her help to find a Christmas present for the girl he liked. Even still, she had fun and her love for Junichi has always been unrequited.

Present day and Rihoko refuses to get up, luckily her friend Kanae comes by and force her out of bed. She forgets something halfway to school and goes back to get it.

After going back home, she realises that she’s not going to make it to school on time and decide to take a shortcut. This happens to be a hole in a wired fence and she gets stuck in it. Someone walks up behind her and coincidently it’s Junichi. He helps her get out but then leaves her behind when the school bell goes off.

At lunch we see why she couldn’t get through the hole when she doesn’t stop eating. Kanae suggests she goes on a diet again, and she agrees. Sanae knew that Junichi must’ve said something to make her agree as she said she was done with diets a while ago.

With the diet decided she gives her cupcakes to Junichi as a thank you for the morning. Sanae then cleverly sets up a Sunday outing with her, Rihoko, Junichi and Umehara.

Rihoko has problems with her diet as we see her stuff down a choux cream. She is then told a lie that it’s a treat you give to someone when you’re proposing. And she believed that!

After school as Umehara and Junichi are doing some ‘dodgy’ dealings they hear Rihoko and see her quietly eating a choux cream. Junichi and Rihoko walk home together and he says that he’s supporting her diet. They visit a park they used to play at when they were kids and enjoy a bit of reminiscing.

Next day, Junichi goes through the hole to get to school, he then looks back at it with a pondering face. Later Rihoko is late as well and so goes through the hole too and easily gets through! Though we find out that it was thanks to Junichi making the hole bigger. This gives her confidence that her diet will work out.

It seems that Koudou has perfected his Rasetsu unit to be able to function in the daytime. He deems them superior to humans and declares a new age of demons has begun.

As Chizuru moves with Kondou, Kaoru stands in their way and greets Chizuru. He tells her that he’s her brother and uses his sword as proof as his sword and Chizuru’s make a pair and are Yukimura heirlooms. And then comes a shock to her, Koudou is not their father!

Back at the fighting, Shiranui and Harada form a truce to defeat the rasetsu first.

Even though Koudou isn’t their father, Kaoru is still teamed up with him and wish to revive the Yukimura clan and wipe out humanity and he wants Chizuru to join. Kondou stands between them and fights Kaoru, but he is beaten down in a matter of seconds. But Chizuru still doesn’t yield and says that he made a promise to protect Kondou, so she draws her sword and prepares to fight.

This Kaoru angers to draw his sword and attack. He easily knocks Chizuru back, but couldn’t deliver a killing blow as Okita rushes in and continues the fight.

Shiranui finds himself only to have one bullet left. So he says that he’ll clear a path for everyone to escape. The others run for it as Shiranui fires a shot at, boxes of gunpower I think, which explodes to cause a distraction.

Okita has the upper hand against Kaoru, but due to his tuberculosis he falls down coughing without finishing Kaoru off. But, again Kaoru fail to deliver a killing blow as this time, Kazama comes in and stabs Kaoru in the back. Kaoru crawls to Chizuru, and then lay dead at her feet.

Kazama informs them that Koudou has betrayed the Satsuma clan and so must be killed. Chizuru asks for a little time because she wants to talk to her father to change his ways. Kazama agrees.

They bury Kaoru and head back to Edo. Because of the defeat, the Shinsegumi moves to Hatamoto.

As everyone are talking about Koudou and his ‘monsters’, Chizuru happens to be just outside by the door, so they stop.

Later Chizuru visits where she and Koudou used to live and realise that she barely knows anything about him. She meets Harada and walks with him. They then visit Okita and after a short pleasant chat, leave.

Next day, Kondou finally shows his face and he seems well. Shinpachi calls for a private chat and Harada goes along. Later, those two leave the Shinsengumi.

Aizen decides not to kill everyone as he wants them to watch him win this battle whilst unable to do anything.

Thinking he’s the only one left, Ichigo moves to attack, but a wall of fire stops him. Seems he forgot Yamamoto. Aizen says that if Yamamoto is to die it would be the end of the Gotei. But Yamamoto is confident.

He strikes first at Aizen, who appears behind him and stabs him. However Yamamoto just smirks and grabs Aizen’s arm. He knows that this is the real Aizen as he recognises the spiritual pressure of the sword that’s just stabbed him. Huge pillars of fire erupt around him, it seems that whilst the captains were being beaten, Yamamoto was setting this up, and says that they will die together in this inferno along with some other captains lying in the vicinity, but they’re all prepared.

But before Yamamoto could initiate this great move something appears behind him. He strikes at it with fire but it has no effect and he is thrown into the ground. Aizen explains that in a head to head fight, Ryujinjakka’s power would definitely win, so he created the thing that just attacked, Wonderwiess, to combat Ryujinjakka by throwing everything else away solely  to seal away Ryujinjakka’s flames.

The flaming pillars die away and Wonderweiss attacks. However, it seems Yamamoto is more than just his sword as he shows off his perfect physique and starts to pummel Wonderweiss to no end. After a relatively short and action packed fight, Yamamoto crushes Wonderweiss to pieces.

Aizen has one more trick up his sleeve. He reminds Yamamoto that Wonderweiss sealed all his flames, and then he asks where Yamamoto thinks it all went and what would happen if it all discharges at once. Yamamoto rushes to Wonderwiess just as his head explodes like a nuclear bomb. He somehow manages to contain the explosion with his body but fall unconscious.

Aizen walks to Yamamoto with the intention of killing him with his own sword. But Yamamoto is actually awake. He grabs Aizen’s leg and initiates Hado ninty-six letting off another huge pillar of fire.

Aizen escapes with singe marks and Ichigo takes this chance to attack.

Because of Mashiro’s all nighter practicing manga, he keeps falling asleep during a test.

After school he and Takagi visit the studio together where Mashiro gives a little lesson on drawing manga and the wide range of pens that can be used. Mashiro’s already made many drawings and to Takagi they’re amazing, but apparently they’re just not manga quality.

Then Mashiro explains more about the manuscript making process. Start with a rough sketch based on the name, then add in characters and backgrounds in pen and then use a screen tone to paint in the black areas. To make manga when you’re not a genius, you need three things, pride, effort and luck. So they start each putting their own efforts in, Mashiro by drawing more and Takagi by reading all the manga that’s in the studio. Because of all nighters again both Mashiro and Takagi are struggling to stay awake in class.

They go to pick up a few things at a store and notice the winner of the Tezuka award is none other than Niizuma Eiji, fifteen years old. But Takagi has confidence they’ll beat him.

Next day at school they walk past a class and sees a guy showing off his manga, he is Ishizawa, but his talents are only drawing faces facing one direction as pointed out by Kaya Miyoshi, Azuki’s best friend.

Thinking hard about future careers, Mashiro decides to go to a poor high school because he wants as much time drawing manga. Even if that means going to a separate school to Azuki, he’ll still do it, he believes in her. Takagi then decides to go to the same school as well as it’ll be easier with the two in the same school.

After hearing that Eiji probably already has an editor because he won that award, Takagi becomes more determined and wants to finish something over the summer break and submit it to an editor. This gets Mashiro fired up as well and he agrees.

On their way back they see Azuki, her mum and sister coming the other way down a street. Takagi encourages Mashiro to ask for Azuki’s email but he’s too shy and says he wants to pretend he hasn’t noticed them. Though that’s not really possible and Azuki notices them but hides behind her mum. Even still, they walk past and pretend not to know each other. But neither of them could resist a glance at each other as they walk pass.

We end with a short scene of Niizuma as he draws his manga.

They have located Amakusa and here’s the plan. Index, Touma and Stiyl are to search the place to find Orsola or the book whilst the nun army causes a diversion. The vortex is open for five minutes so if the three fail before five past midnight they are to evacuate as the rest will find Orsola once they’ve beat Amakusa.

The three decide to focus on finding Orsola, and they move in as the diversion starts. They are attacked by three swordsmen and Stiyl and Index make a quick getaway after Stiyl throws Touma a pendant with a cross on it, but Touma is stuck running from them.

As Touma turns a corner he is tackled to the ground by Orsola! He unties her and they move together. Touma gives the pendant to Orsola as he knows nothing about it and asks her about the dangerous book that she can decipher. Apparently she wanted to be able to decipher the book so she could destroy it as it brought nothing but pain. A huge explosion goes off and Stiyl crashes into the ground near Touma. A new enemy appears, Tatemiya Saiji, a sword wielder.

However he is quickly beat by some quick thinking from Touma and good teamwork from him and Stiyl. The nun army quickly storm the place and everyone is captured.

When no one’s around Saiji tells Touma that Orsola will be killed if she’s in the hands of the Roman Catholics and that the Amakusa never had the book to begin with. The book will apparently bring the end of Christianity which means that neither Amakusa and Roman Catholics want its power. Orsola only escaped from the Amakusa because she couldn’t trust them.

There’s a sudden scream from Orsola and Saiji requests that Touma take Orsola from the Romance Catholics and take her to somewhere neither the Amakusa nor the Romance Catholics can reach. Two nun’s appear to take Saiji away, Touma asks to see Orsola but they decline. Touma touches one of them on the shoulder to move her which angers her enough for her to attack.

With Saiji unable to move and Touma’s left arm injured due to a pre-emptive strike, the fight isn’t going well. Until there’s a retreat call and the two nuns withdraw.
