As the title of the episode (Finals) suggests, final exams are up soon. Yui decides to do her best and wakes up to go jogging, but is then late to class and falls asleep. They go to the library but get absolutely no studying done, so Yui photocopy Mugi’s notes.
After hearing some praise for playing the guitar from their neighbour, who’s an old woman, Yui forgets to study and practiced her guitar.
Yui goes out to get soy sauce one night, but meets the old woman and gets sugar from her instead, yeah… she forgot it was soy sauce. The old woman then asks if she’d like to attend a talent contest, though she really shouldn’t due to exams, she agrees anyway, due to wanting to pay the old woman back for taking care of her all these years.
Because everyone else is revising, Yui decides to go solo. Azusa sees her practicing alone and decides to play with her for the contest.
Next day, Azusa plans out a daily schedule of practicing and studying for Yui, without snack time *shock*. They decided on YuiAzu’s for the name of the duet.
Exams finish, and it’s time for the talent contest. It seems that Yui’s been working very hard lately and looks especially drowsy. She jolts wide awake when it’s their turn to play though. They start with some stand-up… and then they play Brush and Ballpoint pen, YuiAzu remix, a slow, guitar and voice only version. They don’t win, but the old woman enjoyed their song and Yui was happy enough with that.
They get their results and Yui does surprisingly well, guess she has been studying a lot then.
Hmmm not sure what to say. It was nice seeing Azusa get a main part on stage even though she didn’t actually sing, but I was disappointed their performance was cut short, I was enjoying it. We get some more casual clothes designs for the characters, I found their fashion tastes interesting, probably because I have none. We got to meet their neighbour and know them fairly well now, even though we got no name, but it gave us some more back story at least. I loved how Sawa-chan’s looking half dead because she hasn’t had any tea or sweets. How Yui got those marks after sleeping through her exams is beyond me, gave me a laugh though because I was expecting really low marks. Think that’s about all that caught my attention, oh, did anyone spot the clown in the background during the talent contest where Yui was sleeping on Azusa? Don’t know why, but I found that hilarious. Anyway, I want some more stage performances and more songs obviously, though we’ve still got a long way to go for this season, so I can wait for now, I’m enjoying the slow ride, at least it’s not rushed.

I found it interesting that they could photocopy each others notes. While I did have easy access to a copy machine when I was a child, me and my other classmates just copied it by hand. Do students usually photocopy each others notes like this? Guess the Japanese are pretty smart…
*raises hand* =P Y’know, I find it sorta weird (and this comment is not meant to sound racist) to see a Japanese Clown… do they even exist in real life? I thought clowns were more of an American culture, but if there really are clowns in Japan then that’s great! I’ll have to hire one sometime!

I photocopied notes back in high school, was too lazy to write them myself ^^ hehe. Not sure about the
American culture thing, I always assumed that clowns are everywhere… a childs nightmare… I’ve never actually met a clown so I don’t know anything about them, cept they scare children…

I watched this again and I found during the library scene, Ricchan’s notebook has: “I heard her speak English” and then “I think that he knows…” before falling asleep during the lesson. I thought Ritsu hated English… lol
Also the textbook has something about the creation of the moon.
