Episode 4: With This and That The (Stupid) Couple

Its a zombie!

Mio asks Tarou to go out with her, adding that they are lovers. This comes to a shock to both Tarou and Arashiko. Mio tells them it is a plan to cure Tarou of his masochism and the plan will only last until he is cured. Tarou asks whether he has a say in this plan. However he is interrupted by Michiru, who tells them that they need a first date, so to leave the planning to her.

He is weird

On the day of the date, Tarou receives a call from Michiru. She tells him that she gave details to Mio on where they roughly will go. She also adds that she would give additional information as the day progresses. Finally she tells him good luck and hangs up. Just then Mio runs up, apologising for her lateness, she asks him if was waiting long. He replies 30 minutes to which he receives a kick to the face by Mio. Lying on the ground, Mio angrily tells him that he should have said that he had just arrived too. Mio suggest they begin their date by holding hands, but Tarou stupidly gets it wrong. Mio forgets about Michiru telling her where to go, as she stayed up all night planning this day. Tarou gingerly tries to hold hands with Mio, but Mio ends up having to grab his hand and takes him down the road. Up above them Michiru, Arashiko and Tatsukichi watch on, with Michiru stating that the first stage is complete.

Feeling a bit stuffed

Tarou and Mio are in the park, having a picnic. Tarou asks if she handmade the lunch herself. He receives a bump on the head for this (why? I wonder). Tarou then notices plasters on Mio’s finger and hand. Mio reveals them to be fake; a suggestion by Michiru so that Tarou would fall for it in making him believe that she went to so much trouble to make the lunch. Even so, Tarou still looks at the food and adds that a lot of effort was put into it. This embarrasses Mio and she shoves food into Tarou’s mouth. Michiru, Arashiko and Tatsukichi look on from behind the fountain. After the picnic, Tarou and Mio walk around the park. Tarou recounts his conversation with Tatsukichi about what to do on a date. Tatsukichi tells him that he is not much help as he use to date Yumi, but it was during Middle school and after they broke up when Yumi moved. However Tatsukichi tells him that a date goes well when the other person is made happy.

Not exactly private is it

During the walk, Mio asks Tarou she wants some ice cream. Mio is eating her ice cream, when Tarou notices ice cream on her cheek. Mio looks at him and questions him and starts to get angry. Just then Tarou phone rings, he answers to Michiru; who tells him to wipe the ice cream off Mio’s cheek (dumbass!). He finishes his ice cream and wipes the ice cream off Mio’s face, she goes red telling him that she would of got it herself. Tarou phone then rings again; he answers it away from Mio. Michiru tells him that Mio’s affection level has risen. Her affection level will depend upon the choices he makes; if he fails the date will end badly with him having his masochism shown to the world when Mio kicks him.

Try this for a conversion

They continue the date walking down the street, when Shihori-hime jumps out in front of them. Shihori-hime confronts Mio on who is better to go on a date with Tarou. Shihori-hime tries to kiss Tarou and is stop by Mio. Shihori-hime asks her if she plans to cure is his masochism why doesn’t she kiss him. Shihori-hime then makes a comment about Mio being flat-chested. Mio responds by giving Shihori-hime a really powerful kick which sends him flying into the sky. Meanwhile up about Michiru watches on how the date is going and comments it is working out perfectly. She turns to Arashiko; who is dressed in a samurai outfit, tells it is up to her.

This could end badly...

Mio and Tarou are in the Ferris wheel, Tarou receives a message from Michiru tell him to let Mio lie on his lap. Tarou tells the Mio the message, Mio responds by actually lying on his lap. Tarou then receives another message to discuss about what they like about each other. Tarou tells Mio that he likes her cute face. However Mio struggles to come up with anything that she likes about Tarou. After the Ferris wheel, they bump into Arashiko, who confronts Mio that Tarou should be going on the date with her instead of Mio. Michiru sends up a message into the sky, telling Tarou to choose which one. Mio challenges Arashiko and the two ends up having a tug-of-war with Tarou in the middle. Tarou has his masochist face, while the Arashiko and Mio tug hard. Eventually Mio tugs hard and pulls Tarou towards her, which also sends Arashiko into Tarou. This sets off her Androphobia and swiftly punches him into the air.

A date too far

The date continues, Mio just then starts coughing up blood. However Tarou notices a tomato juice carton in Mio’s hand. He then receives a message from Michiru telling him to either go to the hospital or ask Mio to marry him. He chooses to marry Mio and then gets a bag put over his face. Tarou is let out the bag in a church by Michiru and is told that he is getting married now and also the date was for Mio not Tarou. Just then Mio enters into the church in a wedding dress (TO THE WRONG BLOODY MUSIC!!! – should be after!). During the proceedings Mio kisses Tarou. Tarou gets angry as he believes that a kiss should be between to genuine lovers and that the kiss was to cure his masochism. He starts to leave and Mio chases after him but falls to the ground. Tarou believes it to be a fake put on by Mio but when he returns to her, her face is red and she has a fever.

Not the kiss he had in mind

Tarou runs through the streets carrying Mio to the hospital. It then starts to rain, during the journey Mio realises what she likes about Tarou is when he gives his all for other people. Mio is in hospital, Michiru and Tarou talk in the corridor outside her room. Michiru blames herself for let Mio get that way, she tells Tarou that she setup the date for Mio as she wasn’t able to socialize with people when she was younger. Michiru tells Tarou to go home but he opts to stay with Mio and sits by her bedside. The next day, Tarou has a cold and is being molested by his mother and sister, eventually he tells them to get out. Tarou returns to school and enters the club room to find Mio a lot better. She tells him that she loves him and asks him to close his eyes. He does and he receives a kick from Mio. He starts giggling on the floor; masochism in effect. Mio tells him that solving his problem with love was useless.

A funny episode all together, with Mio pushing herself way too hard to help Tarou. The only issue I have with this episode is that they used the wrong music during the wedding scene, which should be played after the ceremony. The entrance for the bride should be either Wagner’s Bridal Chorus or Pachelbel’s Canon. Obviously an error here by the staff, they need to do some research first before they make more mistakes like that. However this mistake is over-shadowed by a brilliant anime series.
