Smile Magic

Key Events

Ittoki Otoya is doing his own thing with his music and personal singing lessons so the rest of the group are motivated by his efforts.

Otoya and Cecil are invited to do a reality TV show in which Cecil performs admirably in.

Haruka gets lost on the way back home and finds Otoya playing with a bunch of kids. It seems that the place where Haruka got lost in used to be Otoya’s neighborhood and he’s helping around the school. We get a bit of his backstory. He wants to help the kids there set up a Bazaar with a haunted house.

Unfortunately a flea market on the other side of town stalls business, but Otoya sings a song which attracts a crowd and their first customers. And the rest of STARISH appears in bear outfits to ‘finish’ things off.

Thoughts:

A rather ‘feel good’ episode helping out a bunch of kids and having some fun along the way. Also got some backstory to Otoya who didn’t have the best of childhoods. Good thing he found the right people to nurture and bring him up so he turned out well. Otherwise he could’ve ended up a very different person as an orphan. And we could be seeing a completely different anime.

With the amount of times Haruka gets lost and ends up in the most unbelievable and coincidental places, she’s starting to remind me of Isumi from Hayate combat butler. If anyone here knows it. But it’s always a point of hilarity when it happens so I’m not complaining. In fact, for once I’m actually enjoying these more relaxed and less plot heavy episodes because of her antics, never get tired of them.

Shame Otoya wasn’t able to get his words out in the haunted house. Haruka will never know, being how dense she is I don’t think she picked it up from their hints, though not that many. But yeah, the reverse harem sure working overtime at the moment. Wonder will she be able to pick someone at the end of this? Or will it end like most harem endings and nothing happens. Or perhaps it’s Cecil? He is the only person who’s gone out and made his feelings clear, and he seems to be the only person that gets more involved than the rest of the group with the individual that the episode’s about. Not sure if that’s supposed to point to anything or not. Could just be to make up for a lack of him last season.

Well, continuing on with the individually focused episodes, let’s see who we have next. It has been enjoyable so far, though I can’t help but think that this plotless season will get to me eventually…
